6 Beds from Around the World (and Beyond!)

1. Ice beds 🧊

While ice hostels and igloos are common in Northern Europe, there are also ice beds made of cubes of ice and a wooden frame. There's a mattress, sleeping bag and reindeer skin to keep you warm. While people usually don't sleep in this kind of bed, they're very popular amongst tourists in Norway.

2. Hammocks ☀️

While most of us use hammocks for relaxing in the sun with a book, many Venezuelan and Mexican people choose to sleep in them through the night. 🌙

3. Japanese Futons 🎌

These beds consist of a tatami which is a mat made of rice straws and woodchip boards that is placed on the floor and a thin mattress that can be folded in half to make it thicker or stored away. Many Japanese people fold their futons away during the daytime to save space. Brilliant!

4. Chinese Kang Stove Bed 

Kang Stove bed is made of bricks or clay and inside of it is a heated area connected to the stove spreading the heat throughout the entire bed that stays nice and warm throughout the day and night. Perfect for winter! ❄️

5. Manji 🪢🪵

A traditional Indian bed that's made of a wooden frame and ropes. Ropes are tied around the wooden frame forming a net. No mattress is needed!

6. Let's not forget the space! 🪐

Due to no gravity, astronauts can't just lie down in bed. Instead, they're strapped into a special sleeping bag that will stop them from floating away.
