Five Ways to Make Nappy-Free Time Less Messy

We all heard about nappy free time and its' benefits. While babies love 'getting some fresh air', it might leave parents stressed and overwhelmed by the possible mess.

Let's be honest... Nappy-free time can be messy! Babies will likely pee (or worse!) during their nappy-free time. Not to worry though! I have found five ways to make your nappy-free time less messy and stressful.

• Pick the right time.

  If your baby just fed, it's very likely that they'll poo soon. Also putting them on their tummy right after the feed might make the reflux worse. It's also worth noting that if your baby is due for a nap, they won't enjoy nappy free time right now and will quickly get fussy.

• Allow plenty of time.

  If you're about to go out or cook the dinner, schedule the nappy free time for a more relaxed time of the day. Babies are likely to have 'accidents' during the nappy free time and it will only add to stress if you're in a rush.

• Prepare the area.

  Pick a safe area at home where dangerous items are out of baby's reach. It should be a flat surface (ideally the floor) so your baby can't fall or hurt themselves. Before you start nappy free time, prepare all needed items: nappy, wipes, cream and clean clothes. This will ensure stress free time and will also mean you don't have to leave your baby unattended to grab necessary items. The surface should be covered with a waterproof mat to absorb any accidents. Ideally, it should also be soft to not irritate the baby's skin. Babies might get tired and you don't want them to lay or drop their head down (during tummy time in early days) onto a bare floor.

• Be prepared for accidents.
